What is the condition?

Microlaryngoscopy is a surgical procedure performed under general anaesthetic, using a rigid scope and an operating microscope to give a magnified, detailed view of the vocal cords. It allows precise removal of nodules, polyps, cysts, papillomas or biopsy of suspicious areas, and is usually completed in under thirty minutes as a day case.

  • Magnified examination of the vocal cords under general anaesthetic
  • Removal of nodules, polyps, cysts or papillomas
  • Biopsy of suspicious tissue

What should I do?

Dos

  • Do expect to go home the same day and to be given specific voice rest instructions for recovery

Don'ts

  • Don't use your voice heavily in the days immediately following the procedure without following the recovery advice given
