Nasal Endoscope

A quick, well-tolerated clinic examination used to assess the throat, voice box and nasal passages.

What is the condition?

A nasal endoscope is a thin, flexible camera passed gently through the nose to examine the throat, voice box and vocal cords directly. The examination itself typically takes around five minutes and is performed under local anaesthetic spray in clinic, with the images reviewed with you immediately afterwards.

Treatment

What can be done?

Used both as a first-line diagnostic tool and to monitor known conditions over time.

  • Direct visualisation of the vocal cords and throat
  • Local anaesthetic spray to numb the nose beforehand
  • Results discussed with you straight after the examination

Prevention

What should I do?

Dos

  • Do let the team know about any nasal allergies before the local anaesthetic spray is used

Don'ts

  • Don't worry about discomfort — most patients find the examination quick and well-tolerated
