Vocal Cord Injections

Injection augmentation to bulk out an underperforming vocal cord and improve voice quality.

What is the condition?

Vocal cord injection augmentation involves injecting a material — such as hyaluronic acid, collagen, fat, or a similar filler — directly into a vocal cord to add bulk and improve how well it meets the opposite cord. It is commonly used for vocal cord paralysis and the ageing voice, and effects typically last from six to twelve months depending on the material used.

Treatment

What can be done?

Can be performed in clinic under local anaesthetic or in theatre under general anaesthetic, depending on the case.

  • Choice of filler material (hyaluronic acid, collagen, fat, or similar)
  • Effects generally lasting six to twelve months
  • Can be repeated as the effect wears off
